Vocational Education
International Institute of Bible & Vocational Training, (IIBVT) offers vocational training to equip Church planters with technical skills for self-support. Vocational education prepares learners for careers that are based in manual or practical activities, traditionally non-academic and totally related to a specific trade, occupation or vocation, in which the learner participates. It is sometimes referred to as technical education, as the learner directly develops expertise in a particular group of techniques or technology.
In Zimbabwe, many preachers leave the church ministry because most Churches cannot afford to pay salaries. Rationally, if the preachers receive technical skills training, they can work part time to meet their livelihood needs. Research shows that the preachers in Zimbabwe, who work part time and preach, have the most attended services and have a better livelihood. Part of the curriculum dealing with vocational training enforces the importance of time management to aid the ministers to budget time as they preach and work part time. Vocational training will consist of hands-on-skills as well as income generating projects and employment. The vocational education will be offered in whole for degree seeking students or in parts for students needing basic skills certificate. Depending on the type of trade the student chooses, technical training will be done both on and off campus. IIBVT will liaise with several companies to arrange for practicum for their students to prepare for aspects of their learning that cannot be accomplished in class or on campus due to equipment. Most of the technical training will be done during the third year when students are not required to be on campus. Vocational education fees and payments are covered in the fees and payments explained under enrollment. However, students may spend more money gathering necessary tools and equipment needed for their specific technical training program. Vocational training will consist of hands-on-skills as well as income generating projects and employment generating projects.
